horizontal coordinates

Horizontal coordinates. A coordinate system in which points on the celestial sphere are identified by the two coordinates altitude and azimuth. Altitude is the angular distance above the horizon, and azimuth the angular distance, measured eastwards, along the horizon from the north point. The altitude and azimuth of a celestial object vary according to the latitude and longitude of the observer and the time of observation.
